Tree Guard

Tree Guard from Tirumala Industries is a ventilated HDPE plastic mesh cylinder that wraps around young saplings to protect them from cattle browsing, goat damage, mechanical injury from weed trimmers and mowers, wind whipping, and sun scald on tender bark. Two construction types are available to suit different planting programmes and budgets.

Type 1 — Square Mesh (Self-Supporting): Made from rigid square-mesh HDPE netting formed into a cylindrical guard that stands upright without external supports. Simply place the guard over the sapling and press the bottom edge into the soil. Ideal for large-scale plantation drives where speed of installation is critical — a single worker can protect hundreds of saplings per day.

Type 2 — Hex/Diamond Mesh (Supported): Made from flexible hex or diamond mesh wrapped around three bamboo stakes and three MS rods, secured with cable ties. This type provides a larger internal volume for faster-growing species and can accommodate wider saplings. The bamboo and MS rod framework gives additional rigidity in windy locations and on exposed sites.

Available in two diameters (375 mm and 475 mm) and three heights (4 ft, 5 ft and 6 ft), in green, orange and blue. Green blends into plantation settings; orange provides high visibility for roadside and highway plantations where guards must be visible to maintenance crews; blue is used in some municipal and corporate planting schemes.

Applications include government social forestry and compensatory plantation programmes, highway and railway corridor plantations, urban roadside tree planting, agroforestry and farm boundary tree lines, commercial timber and fruit orchard establishment, CSR tree plantation drives, and nursery-to-field sapling protection during the critical first 2–3 years of growth.
